Lyrics & Latkes

The Dora Wasserman Yiddish Theatre (DWYT) celebrates the Festival of Lights with an interactive sing-along led by DWYT singers and performers. Moving for the first time to the Segal Centre’s mainstage, Lyrics & Latkes invites audiences of all ages to join together and raise their collective voices in song.

Along with the traditional Chanukah songs in Yiddish, Hebrew, English, and even Ladino, this year’s sing-along will feature a special "DWYT Hit Parade”, a chance to relive some of the most popular songs from Dora Wasserman Yiddish Theatre's musicals over the past 61 years. And, yes, there will be latkes! Presented with English supertitles.

Additionally, the DWYT will link Montreal to the Worldwide Honouring of Holocaust Survivors on the First Night of Chanukah in the lighting of the menorah by Holocaust survivors. The official menorah lighting ceremony at the Western Wall (Kotel) in Israel will be dedicated to Holocaust survivors worldwide in honor of their re-emergence from darkness into light. Montreal will be joining other major capitals, including New York City, Jerusalem, Munich, Paris, London, and Moscow.

Le Théâtre Yiddish Dora Wasserman (TYDW) célèbre le Festival des lumières avec un spectacle interactif de chant en chœur mené par les chanteurs et acteurs du TYDW. Présenté pour la toute première fois sur la scène principale du Centre Segal, Lyrics & Latkes invite les publics de tous les âges à se rassembler et à élever leur voix collective en chanson.

En plus des chansons traditionnelles d’Hanoukka en yiddish, hébreu, anglais et même ladino, le spectacle de cette année présente un « hit-parade du TYDW », une chance de revivre quelques-unes des chansons les plus populaires des comédies musicales du TYDW des 61 dernières années. Et oui, il y aura des latkes! Présenté avec surtitres en anglais.

Par ailleurs, le TYDW connectera Montréal à l’Hommage international aux survivants de l’Holocauste qui aura lieu le premier soir d’Hanoukka; l’allumage de la menora sera effectué par des survivants. La cérémonie officielle de l’allumage de la menora au Mur occidental (Kotel) à Israël rendra hommage à la réémergence des survivants de l’Holocauste à travers le monde, de la noirceur à la lumière. Montréal se joindra à d’autres grandes capitales telles que New York, Jérusalem, Munich, Paris, Londres et Moscou.
